I work as a community manager for the Yocto Project, an open-source project dedicated to improving embedded Linux development. I am very happy that Intel, my employer, pays me to work on such an important and vibrant project.
This blog discusses issues related to technical writing; online communities; embedded computer systems and the product development process; Linux, the GNU project, and other open-source software projects; mobile computing; and anything else I find technically interesting.
I don’t know where I got the name “jefro”, only that it dates back to at least the early 90s. I have been maintaining my own site at http://www.jefro.net since 2002, telecommuting full-time since 1999, and working in open-source software and embedded systems since 1992. Check my writing portfolio or LinkedIn profile if you are interested. You can also find me on twitter.
Thanks for visiting.

Hi Karl, thanks for tracking me down. I am at Embedded Linux Conference this week and have been out of touch.
Klaas is correct that the Latitude ON system is very much like a Blackberry inside the laptop that shares the keyboard and screen, and not much else. The Latitude ON does run MontaVista kernel and a userland that was developed here (which eventually evolved into MontaVista’s Montabello product), but it does not enable any new software to be installed, nor does it contain a user shell. It is not possible to “hack” the system that I know of. I wouldn’t say it is impossible, but I can say that the amount of reverse engineering required to get to the device would make the project unsuitable.
I hope that helps & sorry if it is not what you wan to hear.
